'Jane Austen's early Hampshire Life; exploring a community that shaped her' - FREE talk by members of the Overton Jane Austen Trails Group.

Jane Austen was born on 16th December 1775 in Steventon Rectory, Hampshire, the daughter of the rector of Steventon.  Her nephew, James Edward, called Steventon the 'cradle of her genius' and during her 25 years living in this corner of North Hampshire, Jane Austen wrote early versions of Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey. 

Jane Austen's social circle in the close-knit community surrounding her home at Steventon, including residents of Overton, Deane and Ashe shaped one of the most beloved authors in English literature and through our trails and research we continue to bring her world to life today.
