Step back in time through the history of silk ribbon weaving with a collection woven in collaboration with Jane Austen's House; the Riches to Ribbons exhibition. This will showcase a stunning collection of silk ribbons woven in a creative collaboration with Jane Austen’s House. See the ribbons come to life, from initial inspiration, the designs to step by step of the production methods used at the Mill.
The exhibition will delve into the history of critically endangered craft, Silk Ribbon Weaving. It will look at the place silk ribbons once played in fashion history, the lives of those who wore them and the lives of those who wove them. There will also be the chance to see the ribbon ‘wall of fame’ featuring well known TV films and dramas where the silk ribbons have ended up. Visiting Whitchurch Silk Mill during this time will be a great way to immerse yourself in one of the many events commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Jane Austen.
