The Philharmonia Orchestra, Anvil Arts’ Orchestra in Partnership, performs an energetic programme conducted by Emilia Hoving at The Anvil on Friday 23 February.

Esther Yoo continues her close relationship with the Philharmonia in a performance of Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Written on the brink of the Russian Revolution, this is a piece that turns convention upside down, with lyrical outer movements framing a satirical scherzo. The concerto has the atmosphere of a fairy tale or dream, with the composer’s delicate orchestration to the fore as the finale evaporates in an iridescent shimmer of sound.
