'She has nothing, in short, to recommend her, but being an excellent walker. I shall never forget her appearance this morning. She really looked almost wild.' [Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 8]
Set out on an invigorating, garment-billowing country walk and connect with a rural landscape familiar to Jane. Our apologies, but on this venture, you won’t encounter Mr Darcy in his wet shirt emerging from The Vyne’s lake!
Please note this 3.9 mile (6.2 km) walking route is not buggy or wheelchair-friendly.
Useful information
Parking is free in The Vyne's visitor carpark. To start your route, enter The Vyne's gardens via Visitor Reception. National Trust members enter free when they scan their membership cards. Normal admission applies.
On this self-led walk, you'll head into Morgaston Woods from The Vyne's gardens. During these dates, the gates between The Vyne's gardens and woodland are locked at 4.30pm. You'll just need to make sure you're back in the gardens before this time.
You'll need to dress for the weather, bring wellies except during the height of summer and please keep any four-legged friends on a lead. A heads up for families that this walk is for longer legs.
Accessibility
The route involves bumpy country paths with tree roots crossing the path in places.
