What to expect at August Adventures

We've designed the following to help families, carers and young people decide which August Adventures activities are right for them. Each venue is different, so we've included information about access, facilities, terrain and what to expect on the day for August Adventures at War Memorial Park below.

Location

War Memorial Park, Crossborough Hill, Basingstoke RG21 4AG

What3words for the event location: ///complains.riders.grapes

The event area will be located close to The Orchard, Goldings and the Council Offices.

 Quick Facts

Wheelchair/buggy access: good access on main pathways

Terrain: activities take place on grass

Parking: War Memorial Park does have a car park in Crossborough Hill. This is not next to where the event is taking place so if parking here you will need to walk. There is parking available in town centre car parks. You can find details of council run car parks here.

Toilets: public toilets including an accessible toilet can be found at the John Arlott Pavillion and at the council offices.

Seating: there are benches throughout the park, you are welcome to bring picnic blankets or fold up chairs to sit on.

Quiet space: there is no dedicated quiet space at the event but you are able to step away from activities if you wish and find a quieter area of the park. You or your children are welcome to wear ear defenders.

Food/drink: the closest place to purchase food and drink is the Orchard Café. The Park Social will also be open at the far end of War Memorial Park and the park is walking distance to the town centre. You are also welcome to bring your own snacks or a picnic. You will find bins around the park or alternatively please take your litter home.

What to expect

  • The event features outdoor activities in a large public park so dress for the weather.

  • Families are welcome to stay for as much or as little of the session as they wish.

  • There may be loud noises from Play the Rig as this is a musical activity. This activity also involves physical movement.

  • There may also be loud noises with the DJ workshops but the sound can be managed, speak to a member of the DJ workshop team.

  • Craft materials and supplies will be used for the craft workshops, we suggest you dress for mess.

  • The BVA trail will take place in the wooded area, there is a paved pathway so you can take a wheelchair or pushchair through.

  • BVA will also be hosting a Family Fun Day with lots of organisations having their own stalls and activities. We don’t have information about these to share.

  • All activities are drop in. You may have to wait if the event is busy.

  • All activities require adult supervision, we ask you to stay with your children.
