Getting around

Basingstoke benefits from a central location, just 50 minutes from London and 60 minutes from the south coast by car. We are well positioned along the M3 with transport links to the M4 and M25 and in close proximity to Reading, Newbury and Winchester. Basingstoke may be best known for its number of roundabouts but rest assured the town and surrounding areas are well served by public transport and accessible by bicycle and on foot.

By car

Conveniently located just off junctions 6 and 7 of the M3. Also, easily accessible via the A339 from Newbury and Oxford and A33 from Reading. Arriving into Basingstoke, you will find a number of car parks in the town centre which are within walking distance to the shopping and leisure facilities.

If you drive an electric vehicle you will be pleased to hear there a number of electric vehicle charging points in car parks across Basingstoke town centre including in Festival Place and a dedicated electric vehicle charging car park in Feather's Yard. Outside of the town centre there are charging points in car parks in Overton, Kingsclere, Whitchurch and Bramley.

Basingstoke train station

By train

Basingstoke is just a 50-minute direct train ride from London Waterloo and a 14-minute direct train ride from Winchester. It is also on direct routes from Reading, Oxford, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth and even Manchester. For those looking to travel within the borough by train, you can get to and from Whitchurch, Bramley and Overton. Step off the train and you are in walking distance to the town centre to visit Festival Place shopping centre, The Malls, Basing View and our beautiful local parks.

By bicycle

For the carbon conscious, Basingstoke is great to cycle around, with a wealth of both on and off-road cycle routes for you to explore. The National Cycle Network has a number of routes connecting Basingstoke with the rest of Hampshire and beyond which will guide you through quiet lanes and attractive villages. Once you have reached your destination there are a number of places you can park your bicycle but you will need your own padlock.

The majority of local bus services in Basingstoke and the surrounding areas are operated by Stagecoach. The Stagecoach bus network links to places such as Alton, Andover, Tadley and Whitchurch.

It's easy to get around the town centre on foot. The Top of the Town is pedestrianised and routes to Basing View, the train station and the town centre parks are well signposted. If you are looking to explore nearby areas there are plenty of walking routes.
