August Adventures: A summer full of fun in Basingstoke and Deane

Looking for ways to keep the kids entertained this summer? August Adventures has you covered! Across Basingstoke and Deane, families can enjoy an exciting mix of interactive activities, performances, creative workshops and more, all completely free. Events run from 11am to 3pm, so drop in and enjoy the fun.  

Friday 1 August – War Memorial Park 

Get creative with Louise Hight and design a mythical creature. Watch action-packed BMX ramp shows and try out new skills in workshops with Fusion Extreme. Cool off with PopUp Play Village and splash in water trays, decorate a pebble and roleplay in a pirate and mermaid adventure or run a smoothie and ice cream cafe. Plus, celebrate Basingstoke Voluntary Action’s 60th anniversary and complete their superhero trail. 

Tuesday 5 August – Brighton Hill Park 

Join the fairy finders and uncover the magic hidden within Brighton Hill Park with ScratchBuilt Productions. Set sail on a LEGO adventure with the Brick People and make pirate themed creations. Get crafty with Olivia and decorate a magnifying glass, perfect for spotting tiny creatures on the Love Basingstoke mini beast trail.  

Friday 8 August – Top of the Town, Basingstoke 

Calling all budding palaeontologists! Gently uncover dinosaur bones hidden beneath the sand. Channel your inner pirate by designing a treasure map with Louise Hight, complete with islands, pirate ships and hidden treasure. Decorate binoculars with Olivia then put them to the test in the Love Basingstoke Top of the Town binocular quest, searching for hidden details across the area. 

Wednesday 13 August – Tadley, The Green (Next to Tadley Memorial Hall) 

Science lovers can experiment with Fun Science, make slime stress balls, complete a human circuit, build and launch a straw rocket or craft a paper helicopter and safely try out exciting scientific reactions. Create a recycled robot with Louise Hight using upcycled materials and decorate a magnifying glass with Love Basingstoke to take home, perfect for exploring the garden, house or adventuring. 

Friday 15 August – Top of the Town, Basingstoke 

Take on an engineering challenge, working together to build a tower or bridge. Fun Science returns with entertaining demonstrations, watch potions fizz, fire bubbles ignite, and reactions burst. Budding inventors can make their own mini torch with Genie Lab Science.  

Tuesday 19 August – Chineham Splash Pad

Prepare to be amazed by the Recycled Magic Show with ScratchBuilt Productions where everyday materials create impressive illusions at 11.15am and 1.30pm. Explore the outdoors with Maximum Play, create seed bombs and nature mobiles with Artful Kids and watch the Wild-ERFUL storytelling before taking part in some nature themed crafts with Scrap Susie. 

Wednesday 20 August – Penwood, (Outside Woodlands Stores) 

Join Junk Jodie for a buzzing storytelling session with Bobby Bee and friends, exploring the importance of insects and gardens through recycled creations. Explorers can create wild and colourful jungle masks with Louise Hight. 

Tuesday 26 August – Russell Howard Park 

Local artists Jacky Purtill and Rachel Davis will be running craft workshops creating mini beasts from golf balls, swirling sun catchers from upcycled CDs and splatter art using a salad spinner. Take part in circus workshops where you can try juggling, balancing and other circus skills. Also, get ready to bounce, climb, and slide your way through an epic 40ft Inflatable Obstacle Course!
